(Physical labor jobs) Finding the Right Job: Bend the Rules a Little

By Fred Jackson

Job hunting can be a tedious endeavor full of ups and downs. The job openings can appear few and far between. If you think differently, a job search can actually be somewhat pleasant. The perfect job may not be waiting, but it’s possible that you can make your own perfect opportunity.

Applying for jobs is a process that many people are familiar with: search the classifieds, send in a resume and then hopefully go in for an interview. After that you most likely have to sit around and hope for a call that means good news. Does this process really work for you? Here are a few tips to improve your job search.

Be proactive rather than reactive. Finding open jobs is easy if you check the newspaper. Anyone can do that. An effective strategy is to get in touch with potential employers whether they have an opening or not. In this way, you put yourself on the business’ radar for now or in the future. Remember to read up on the the company’s current issues. An employer may realize that you’re a good fit to immediately deal with those issues.

Don’t accept standard qualifications. Job-seekers are too often scared away from jobs because they don’t have every prerequisite in an ad. Many specialized positions require certification of some kind, but for most others there is no requirement. If you don’t meet all specifications, you still shouldn’t be too discouraged to apply. Remember that every business operates differently and will teach you after you’re hired. Selling your special skills to a company is a great strategy.

Try traditional strategies in new ways. Looking for a job using proven methods can be successful, but it doesn’t have to be the only way. Classified ads are useful, but it’s also a good idea to try online job searches. Also, try creative approaches like designing a website or uploading video that lets you give your profile.

To find a job you have to assess your own individual needs. A job hunt only has to be tailored to one person, and that person is you. If you think creatively and go on the offensive, you greatly increase your chance for success.

Looking for a job can be a long, frustrating and sometimes scary process. It may seem like there just aren’t that many opportunities out there for you. Conversely, looking for a job can be a great time for challenging yourself and expanding your mind. If you’re motivated enough to think outside the box, you may be able to find a job that’s the perfect fit for you.

You and millions of other people know the typical steps for finding a job. Waiting to find out if you’ve been hired is just another step in the process. You and so many other job-seekers know the steps, but the whole process doesn’t really fit you. Here are some ideas to consider that may just put you a step ahead of other competitors in the job market.

Don’t react, create. The typical action is to contact a company in response to some ad that you’ve seen advertising an open position. Instead, call some companies where you might like to work even if they aren’t advertising a job opening. With this approach you can potentially find out about brand new openings or just sell yourself for future reference. Knowing current events is great for helping to sell your unique qualifications to an employer.

Don’t let hiring guidelines turn you away. Minimum requirements lists are not always rigid. Many specialized positions require certification of some kind, but for most others there is no requirement. Even if you don’t meet every criterion, apply for a job if it’s one that you really want. Companies teach their employees how things should be done, so initial guidelines are only part of the story. Selling your special skills to a company is a great strategy.

Think creatively. Standard strategies can be effective. After all, there’s a reason that people use them. Classified ads are useful, but it’s also a good idea to try online job searches. Creating a unique website is an example of a way to let your name and qualifications be seen.

There’s no right or wrong way to find a job. It’s only a matter of using the most successful tactics to land the best job for you. If you’re motivated and dedicated, you will discover unique ways to find success.
