(Physical labor) Are There Rules to Find the Right Job?
By Fred Jackson
If you’ve ever had an unsuccessful job hunt then you know how difficult it can be. You may feel frustrated about the lack of current opportunities. If you think differently, a job search can actually be somewhat pleasant. The perfect job may not be waiting, but it’s possible that you can make your own perfect opportunity.
Applying for jobs is a process that many people are familiar with: search the classifieds, send in a resume and then hopefully go in for an interview. After you interview, the decision is usually out of your hands. You and so many other job-seekers know the steps, but the whole process doesn’t really fit you. Here are some ideas to consider that may just put you a step ahead of other competitors in the job market.
Go to the job instead of waiting for it to find you. Finding open jobs is easy if you check the newspaper. Anyone can do that. Instead, call some companies where you might like to work even if they aren’t advertising a job opening. You can call a desirable company and sell yourself or you can ask questions that may open doors for you. Being familiar with particular business practice is also a good idea because it allows you to offer specific ways you can help the company.
Don’t accept standard qualifications. Job-seekers are too often scared away from jobs because they don’t have every prerequisite in an ad. For some positions these specifications are important, but for others they are just guidelines. Even if you don’t meet every criterion, apply for a job if it’s one that you really want. What many ads don’t tell you is that companies train all their employees in some way. Taking a chance on applying has the benefit of allowing you to sell qualifications that you have that an ad may not have mentioned.
Be innovative in your approach. There’s nothing wrong with some traditional methods of job hunting as long as you make the process work for you. In today’s market, it’s important to have a presence in the real world as well as online. Furthermore, consider starting your own blog or website to display your skills or joining a reputable job forum where you can network in a brand new way.
A job hunt is just as unique as you. It’s only a matter of using the most successful tactics to land the best job for you. Remember two things that can boost your chances of success: do whatever it takes, and put your own spin on it.
It may seem especially difficult to get jobs without a degree. Please visit http://www.jobswithoutdegrees.com/ to find and apply for jobs like these. Get started now.
