In the past five years, there have been more job cuts than there has ever been before. It is scary to see how many there have been and how it is getting worse every single month. People are losing their homes, cars, boats, and everything else they own, or they have to sell their things just to pay their bills so they can get by until they can find another job. They took 159,000 jobs off the payroll just in September this year. This was bigger than the job cuts in March of 2003, and it has gotten much worse since then. Just think of how bad it is going to get by the end of this year or next year. It is hard to think of but it can happen and we have to prepare for this to happen.
Did you know that 760,000 jobs had to be let go just this year? Just think of all those people out of work. It makes you sick to think of how the economy is getting and of all those people who have no jobs. The economy is going down. More and more jobs are being let go because they have to be cut and because they could not keep them on the payroll. They say we need to understand that all that is going on in the economy will be repaired and restored to how it was with time, but they need to understand that we have to have money to live on and that we can’t live like this. They need to get their acts straightened up to get it fixed or the economy will fall and fall hard.
In August there were 73,000 jobs that were cut, and in July there were 67,000 jobs gone. These occurred in just a couple of months’ time, and you can see how bad it is getting out there. If things don’t get better, there might only be a few jobs out there left or none that are hiring at all. People are getting worried because their jobs can be next in line to be cut. Jobs can slow down, and then you know it is coming. Sometimes, you will have an order so high and then it will drop, meaning it is gone and you don’t even know it. It can be because the company went out of business or that particular item that is being manufactured went out without you knowing.

Think of it this way, if you have been working for a company for 5 years or so you will definitely be in experienced of how to present yourself in a job interview, times change and so do interview techniques so you have to brush up on your skills. Plus if you have been laid off you also have to make sure that you are emotionally ready to approach an interview.

Continued Job Growth Makes CDL Employment a Great Career Choice

CDL employment continues to be a great choice for drivers who want a steady job with better than average pay. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2008-2009 Edition, CDL drivers can expect to earn between 7.02 per hour to 18.38 per hour. Additionally, many companies offer sign-on bonuses and overtime incentives.
Individuals who are interested in CDL employment should also consider all job requirements before pursuing a career in the trucking industry. Below are just a few of the additional requirements that employers may require to drive for their companies:
Age Requirements: Many companies hire drivers who are as young as 18 years old while others only hire drivers who are 21 or older. Often, less experienced drivers will drive smaller vehicles, such as panel trucks, until they gain adequate skill to drive larger vehicles.
Physical Requirements: Drivers are required to spend many hours behind the wheel, so employees must be able to sit for long periods of time. Additionally, drivers are often required to load and unload merchandise; therefore, they are required to get yearly physical examinations.
Mechanical Knowledge: Drivers must have a basic understanding of how to troubleshoot possible problems with their vehicles. They have to ensure that their trucks are in good operating order (i.e. brakes, working windshield wipers, proper oil levels, cargo properly secured, etc.) They must be able to recognize potential problems and report them to the dispatcher.
Education and Training: All drivers are required to have a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and should have completed a certified driver training course or have experience driving commercial vehicles. Companies often offer additional training to their employees. Many companies require that all drivers have a high school diploma. To drive larger trucks, many companies raise the minimum age limit to 22 and require three to five years of driving experience as a condition to employment.
Additional Requirements: Employees may also be required to be salesmen. The ability to get along well with others is an important requirement. Employers prefer to hire individuals who are self-motivated and can work with minimal supervision. Drivers must read and speak English fluently and have the ability to read road signs and to communicate well verbally and in writing. Additionally, random drug and alcohol testing is required. Applicants with a felony conviction involving a motor vehicle or previous DUI will not be eligible for employment.
